Echoing in the back of my mind, I hear the comments about growing old. Some are humorous, some are sad. The one that sticks constantly in my thoughts is the one concerning regrets.
Most have few regrets for the things they did, but many have regrets about the things they DID NOT DO - the adventures they failed to embark upon, the races they did not run, the paintings they did not paint, the family they neglected, and the novels they never wrote.
Today, I finished a small book, "A Destroyer of Peace and Nations" and when searching the Copyright office website, I discovered they now offer copyrights for up to ten works under one fee.
Challenge accepted.
Before I release that one work, I am determined to finished ten more. That is not as daunting as it may seem to the novice novelist. I have far more than ten in progress. I just needed the motivation to FINISH them. Now, I am motivated to finish, copyright, edit, and release ten of my works before that hourglass of my life runs out of sand.
Writing is a lonely sport. We write. We want readers. It is a lonely place where we strive long hours of creating, editing, dreaming, and longing for feedback only to hear the silence of indifference.
Putting on blinders, mufflers for the ears, and pouring one more glass of wine...I am on a quest to finish ten novels to take advantage of the Copyright Office's offer of ten for the price of two works...before I die.
Among all this resolve, I know the truth. This won't be read by many until I am gone from this earth, but it does not matter. I long to write regardless of who reads. Therefore, whatever happens in the world of chaos and unrest, whatever weeds take over the flowers in my yard, to what trees may drop on my house, to whatever mishap happens, I am writing with abandon.
Smiling, even laughing at myself. Let's see how long this lasts.
Tipping my wine glass to solute any who read this, cheers and may you have peace and tranquility in your life and may you run with joy towards all the goals you dream to reach before time runs out for you.
