River of Knowledge
Sometimes, I think of knowledge as a flowing river where I want to find its source, its beginning. Most times, however, I simply want the wisdom from those who perfect that knowledge beyond the trickle of water coming out of the ground at the source.
Think of wisdom as a great river that has many contributories forming it. The contributories can be other resources, experience, and any tidbit of knowledge that adds to the main body of water rushing towards the sea of knowledge. A great river is not great without the smaller streams of water flowing into it increasing its volume.
Knowledge is never stagnate, never stands still. Still waters run deep, but are in constant motion. When water becomes stagnate, it is of little value to anything except mosquitoes. Physically, when we stop moving, we start dying. Emotionally, when we stop learning, we stop growing in character.
This page is mainly for writers, but anyone can come and splash around in the pools of knowledge about writing, editing, punctuation, and many other aspects of the use of language as a way of communicating by the written form. These pages will grow as more contributions come in to add to the main body of the River of Knowledge.
Writers on Writing
Click on the above link to take you to a page of what writers have to say about writing, how they accomplished success, where they failed before that success, and their advice to us on writing. The information is at the source - their websites. I am merely providing the bread crumbs through the forest. If you know of an author who has a book, blog, or website that can help writers find their way to success, please send it on the contact form. I will include it on this page with credit to you for sending unless you wish not to be mentioned.
Books on Writing
Many books have been written over the years about the craft of writing. Language books, literature books, and books on writing by those who have successfully accomplished their goals in writing. Some are huge cumbersome books while others can fit in your purse, pocket, or briefcase. Some are almost as entertaining as they are instructional. If you have a favorite book that has helped you with writing, grammar, sentence structure, or marketing, please send me the title along with author and location in which someone can find the book.
Links
If you want to find resources on the interenet about the craft of writing, editing, rewriting, and getting published, click on Links. Again, if you know of any additional forums, sites, or other places where writers can learn success, please send it by using my contact form. I will add the link (after I check out the source, or course).
Weasel Words
The above link will take you to some fun with proper language. Send me your favorite thorny word that sticks in your side making you cringe.
Learning by Example
On this page are examples of misused language, punctuation, and sentence structure. Please send examples of misused punctuation, sentences, or cliches. If you send an example, please state the source. Please give credit where credit is due. If you read it in a book, please give book title and author. If you see it in a news article, or blog, or other online reading, please give site and article. I will research the source prior to adding to my website. If you have an original, such as one you edited in your own work, please include it so we can learn from your experience.
(Disclaimer: if I misquote or otherwise miscredit an example, please don't hang me. Simply write me with the correct source. If a conflict continues, I will delete it rather than risk offending anyone. This page is designed to HELP others, not for tooting my own horn. If hostility results, I will delete the pages and go back to my own writing where I have great peace. Throughout the many years I have pursued writing, I have learned from the greats, the not-so-greats, and from experience. It was helpful when I found many resources on line, and now I wish to pass that information to the next writer to use in perfecting their talents.)
